Handbag Care

Viva

1. Calf: Leather made from the skins of young cattle. It is finer grained, lighter weight and more supple than cowhide or kip leather.
Varieties
Glazed: Coated with a clear layer of non-pigmented glass and then machine glazed with a heated roller for a highly polished look. Imported from Italy.
Croco Embossed: Embossed with a crocodile pattern by a heavily pressured and heated machine to manipulate the natural surface of the calf to resemble real crocodile. Darker color lacquer is spray tipped on the pattern to heighten the peaks and valleys of the plate. Imported from Italy.
Care: Clean with damp cloth. Can be treated with Lexol Leather Conditioner.

2. Goat: Goat is comparable to sheep or lamb but because of its lighter fiber structure it allows for more durable applications such as gloves, shoes and handbags while maintaining a soft "hand"...
Varieties
Sparkling: Finished with a fine layer of lacquer containing dispersed metal or pearl powder to create an iridescent shimmer. Imported from Italy.
Care: Clean with damp cloth.

3. Lamb: This term applies to either leather from sheepskins or lambskins which are virtually undetectable after tannage. Because the skins are protected primarily by wool the actual skins are more pours and very delicate giving the leather a luscious buttery feel.
Varieties
Softique/Pearlized: Top grain lamb is basic and fashion colors as well as in softly pearlized mineral and dusty tones. Imported from Italy.
Shrunken: Skins that have been allowed to shrink in salts and moisture to cause a relaxed and wrinkled grain effect. Imported from Italy.
Basket weave: Embossed with a deeply cut basket pattern in order to achieve an impression of a real woven leather. Imported from Italy.
Care: Clean with damp cloth. Can be treated with Lexol Leather Conditioner.

4. Cow: Any kind of leather made from cattle hides. Typically the thickest and heaviest of leathers. Produced in a vast array of treatment and finishes.
Varieties
Abbrasivato: Medium weight cowhide finished with a lacquer process to create depth and sheen without the extreme high shine of patent. Imported from Italy.
Pebble Grain: Medium grade leather embossed with a textured grain to create a natural yet uniform appeal. Imported from Italy.
Care: Abbrasivato can be cleaned with soap and water. Pebble grain can be cleaned with a damp cloth and treated with Lexol Leather Conditioner.

5. Suede: Suede can be made from a variety of leathers although mostly from calf of pig. A suede finish is produced by buffing or wheeling the surface to create a nap of pile.
Varieties
Printed Metallic: Pig suede with heat transferred metallic patterns. Imported from Italy.
Paisley: Pig suede top dyed with multi-colored paisley prints. Imported from Italy.
Care: Absorb any wet stain with dry cloth. Allow to dry then lightly brush with suede brush (metallic prints can not be brushed, only wiped)

6. Patent: Patent leathers can be made on several different kinds of skins or hides. Traditional patents are generally made on cow. The grain is buffed out and then treated with oils to prepare a smooth surface. This surface is then coated many times with varnishes or synthetic resins while being rubbed between coats to create a glassy high shine look.
Varieties
Croco: Same process as above after first embossing with a crocodile print and color tipping the surface.
Care: Can be cleaned with soap and water.

7. Hair: Commonly referred to as "pony", this leather is left with hair on and can be found in both horse and calf. Calf is of higher quality in that the hairs are shorter and softer.
Varieties
Croco: Hair on calf heat and pressure embossed with a crocodile plate for a very unique texture.
Care: Clean with damp cloth. Can be brushed with suede brush.

Ananas
Ananas handbags are handcrafted fro the finest leathers and natural polished woods. You may find slight variation in the leather, which adds to the character and beauty of your bag. As with all fine leather products, we recommend treating your leather bag with a weatherproof protectant. As with any quality product, your new bag requires love and care. Light colored bags get dirty - they need extra care.
All Ananas bags use natural wood hardware. Slight color variations may occur. Wood cut from younger trees will be lighter in color than wood cut from older trees. Wood can break if not handled with care. We hope you enjoy many happy days with you bag.
